Civil Services Examination, 2025

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will hold the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2025, for recruitment to various Services and Posts under the Government of India.


Important Dates

Date of Notification: January 22, 2025

Last Date for Online Application: February 21, 2025, until 6:00 PM

Date of Preliminary Examination: June 2, 2025

Date of Main Examination: September 20, 2025 (tentative)

Vacancies

The number of vacancies to be filled through the examination is approximately 1,000. The exact number of vacancies will be notified later.


Eligibility Criteria

Nationality:


For IAS and IPS: The candidate must be a citizen of India.

For other services: The candidate must be either a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before January 1, 1962, intending to settle permanently, or a person of Indian origin who has migrated from specified countries.

Educational Qualification:

The candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university or equivalent.


Age Limit (as of August 1, 2025):


Minimum: 21 years

Maximum: 32 years (Relaxation as per rules for reserved categories).

Number of Attempts:


General: 6 attempts

OBC: 9 attempts

SC/ST: No limit (age bar applies).

Application Fee

General/OBC/EWS: ₹100/-

SC/ST/PH/Women: Exempted

Payment can be made via online modes or by depositing cash at designated SBI branches.


How to Apply

Candidates are required to apply online through the official UPSC website: www.upsc.gov.in. No other mode of application will be accepted.


Selection Process

Preliminary Examination (Objective type for screening).

Main Examination (Descriptive type).

Interview/Personality Test.

Exam Centers

The Preliminary Examination will be conducted at designated centers across India.
